Industry Problem

Dental handpieces are built on the outdated friction grip design, a round chuck gripping a round bur shank. A friction grip system when compared to an engaged or locked drive system experiences lower performance. Specifi cally, poor torque transmission results in slower cutting speed and inferior concentricity results in compromised cut quality and unwanted vibration.

The ProDrive Solution

The ProDrive System features a unique and patented turbine design which provides signifi cant performance improvements. The ProDrive Upgrade Turbine substantially improves the cutting speed of leading market handpieces, which increases the effi ciency of the dentist and may shorten overall chair time resulting in the ability for dentists to treat more patients. The superior design improves the chuck hold on the bur shank resulting in reduced vibration and offers a noticeable improvement in cut accuracy which is paramount to successful tooth preparations. The ProDrive System has many benefits to the patient. More effi cient and precise cutting contributes to reducing chair time and smoother cutting results in less vibration causing less stress on healthy tooth structure. Less vibration and stress contributes to less post-operative pain or discomfort.

Market Opportunity

The overall North American addressable market for ProDrive Systems is US $1.3 Billion in annual sales. The international market represents an additional US $2 Billion addressable market for ProDrive Systems. The business is based on a lucrative recurring revenue model, the “razor and blades” business model. Dentists use an average of 1,050 burs per year and the ProDrive System requires the use of ProDrive proprietary burs. Dentists use an average of 7 handpieces that require a turbine replacement every 12-18 months. Therefore both turbines and burs are recurring sales opportunities. Considering the lifespan of a dentist’s career, each customer becomes a long-term recurring revenue generator - guarded against competition by patents.
